Task:

  • You will work with your assigned partner to research a science vocabulary word (below).


  • You will use a tree map to break down the word as you identify any prefixes, base words and suffixes.

  • You will create the tree map using Thinking Maps software and define these word parts and add this information to your Thinking Map.


  • You will locate words in the same/similar word family and add them to the Family Tree document. Use onelook.com to find other words.





    *You will have to determine, or figure out, if words with the same prefix have the same meaning. Remember that prefixes have different meanings and may not mean the same thing just because you can see it in the word.


  • You will summarize what you learned about your word in a discussion for your group. You will report to the class using your graphic organizers and discussion to teach the rest of the class about your word and how parts of the word can help you figure out what unknown words mean.
